Best Time to Schedule a Newborn Session

The baby prep list is a mile long. You are overwhelmed, anxious, and don't know where to start. It seems that there is so much to do, yet so little time left before your baby arrives.

A lot of expecting moms wonder when they should start looking for a newborn photographer and when to actually schedule the newborn photo session. While the general recommendation is to book your newborn photographer by the end of the Second Trimester, it is never too early to contact the photographer you really want to work with. Most of the best newborn photographers book up early.

After 5 years of photographing newborn photo sessions, here are my recommendations on what has worked the best for my clients. 

Best time to schedule your newborn photo session:

Beginning of 2nd Trimester - start searching for a newborn photographer  
Middle of 2nd Trimester - meet with and book your photographer
Beginning of 3rd Trimester - schedule maternity photo session
5-12 Days after Birth - schedule newborn photo session

The best time to meet with and book your maternity and newborn photographer is by the middle of the Second Trimester.

Maternity photo sessions are scheduled 1.5-2 months before your estimated due date. 

Newborn photo sessions are scheduled after the baby arrives, usually 5-12 days after birth. Your due date month is reserved on my calendar and we schedule the specific day once the baby arrives.
